How Much Should I Weigh For My Height?

Too often we deal with questions like this, “I am not sure what I should weigh really. I know what I am happy with and what I think looks pretty good on me but lately I want to try to slim down some more. I am female, 31 years old, 5’9″ and currently weigh 150 (as of today).”

“To me, that sounds heavy just because of my height. I never hear shorter women saying 150 lbs sounds slim. Usually they are upset because 140 sounds too high! I work out 3 – 4 times a week with weights, running, bicycle and also aerobics sometimes. I have a funny body, it is very lean in the torso and heavy in the limbs so usually I don’t even notice I have gained weight until my jeans are tight in the seat and thighs.”

So, one should really kind of have to figure it out for himself.  Everybody is built in a different way and we all carry our weight very differently.  The weight ranges take this into account somewhat, but some of us might feel our “best” or most comfortable weight is outside the ranges.  You should find a place where you feel comfortable with your body.  There’s no “right” answer that applies to everyone of a certain height.

Though, doctors suggest, as a guideline, 100 lbs for 5 foot and 5 lbs for each inch after that.  To me, that sounds quite logical.
