More and more people are starting to realize that one of the biggest issues facing adults today is the growing problem of obesity. Two thirds of adult Americans are overweight or obese.
We are literally eating ourselves to death. How did we become such a fat nation? If you take a look at some old photos from fifty or a hundred years ago, you’ll notice very few fat people. Why is this?
Before, most people had to work hard to earn money. And by work hard, I mean physically hard. If you can imagine going to gym every day for eight hours, that’s what it used to be like to earn a living.
Another, likely more significant reason is that the food we eat today is completely different than the stuff people ate a hundred years ago. Food in those days was fresh, and wasn’t shipped across the country. People ate stuff that was grown in their own neighborhood.
Today, most of the food you can get is filled with chemicals, preservatives, and all kinds of other junk that would be better of in some high school chemistry lab.
Of course, the reason for this is so they can transport food over much greater distances, and keep it edible longer. But that is for the benefit of those making money from selling the food, not the people eating it.
While they continue to make profits and watch their bank accounts grow, we continue to get fatter and fatter. Are they really that concerned with our health? Or are they more concerned with their bottom line?
In order to take control of your own health, you have to come to the conclusion that nobody will do it for you. Only when you choose the right food, and choose to make time for exercise do you stand a chance in today’s difficult world.
